We are very proud to be supporting The Moldova Project‘s Christmas campaign. Supported by comedian and author Mark Watson, the charity is asking 300 generous people to donate £10 each to buy Christmas presents for children in the remote Moldovan villages of Bobeica, Ciuciuleni and Geamana.
The mission of the charity is to work with Europe’s most vulnerable families, supporting them to find long-term solutions so that they can have happier, safer and more independent lives. 25% of people in Moldova live below the poverty line with an estimated 30% of these in rural areas.
“Year-round we work with families on a one-to-one basis, keeping their needs, abilities and hopes for the future at the centre of our work. We firmly believe that every child should have the right to an education, a family, a safe home and the opportunities that those from more affluent backgrounds have, and we work with their parents to help them to achieve this.
“What many people in the western world may take for granted at Christmas time such as presents, family gatherings and celebrations, are simply not possible in Moldova without our support. We are launching the #1in300 campaign to buy presents for impoverished children based in Bobeica, Ciuciuleni and Geamana and to make Christmas special for them and their families.”
“It is astonishing to think that there are still some children in European countries who live in such debilitating poverty. The fact that children received their very first Christmas present last year thanks to the efforts of The Moldova Project is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.
“All we are asking is for 300 people to donate £10 – the price of a couple of drinks – to this campaign so that more children can experience the joy of unwrapping a present this Christmas.”
